My Amsterdam Trip

Hey everyone.

Today’s post is just going to be to tell you a little bit about my trip to Amsterdam. I went for 3 nights and 2 days with my Boyfriend, Cam and had an amazing time. I definitely could have stayed there a lot longer but was super tired by the end of my trip.

In the next few days I will be posting another blog post about things to know if you’re visiting Amsterdam as there were a few things I wish I had known before visiting.

We flew Sunday night from Birmingham airport, it was my first time flying from Birmingham and I have to say that the airport was super nice and big (I feel like I didn’t get my full airport experience as I was really hungover from the night before – oops). It was my first time flying with just hand luggage so you could say I was a little stressed out (if you asked my boyfriend then he may use the word ‘savage’).

The flight was super short, only 45 minutes (even though it was expected to be an hour and fifteen minutes). The flight felt super short as we were given a free sandwich, biscuit and drink shortly after taking off.

By the time we had eaten we were landing (I was super excited about this). I also have to just add in the sandwich was so so so good. I was a bit cautious at first as it was egg salad but it was delicious (I may have eaten Cam’s sandwich too hehe). We flew with KLM and they were absolutely amazing. They checked my bag for free when we were going there as the plane was full.

Our hotel was so so nice and a lot fancier looking than I thought. We did have twin beds which I didn’t realise when booking but it was all good, just meant more space. We also had a rain shower which I absolutely loved. (I wish I had taken some photo’s of the room but it completely slipped my mind).

The first night we were there we visited a food hall, unfortunately as we got there quite late a lot of the stalls were closing/closed. Cam recognised one of the stalls names from a Facebook video we saw so he went over and had a hot dog and then we went for a little wander to find out bearings. After wandering around for a while and not getting any closer to knowing where we were going we decided to call it quits and go back to the hotel to be fresh for the next day.

We started the day off by having breakfast at the hotel buffet (we had meatballs for breakfast and they were so freaking good). Looking back we managed to do a hell of a lot of stuff in one day. We started off at the Heineken experience which was so much fun (even though I’m not a beer fan myself). You wander around looking at different things and going into different interactive exhibits like a 4D experience and there were lots of photo booths there.

You got 3 beers including in your ticket price and even got the chance to pour your own pint at the end (mine was dreadful). We went on to Hard Rock Cafe for some food and a cocktail, we shared the sharing platter which was so yummy.

After food we wandered around for a bit and went into a few shops to have a look. I think I stopped in nearly every cheese shop, they were everywhere and all had samples out to try (yummy). They had some gorgeous cheeses ranging from pesto flavoured to truffle oil.
We visited Body Worlds next which was one that I wasn’t too sure about but Cam wanted to visit. It was quite odd to be honest. It was interesting but seeing all the parts of the body/muscle on display was freaking me out a bit.

We went to the Ice Bar in Amsterdam as when we visited London we had a really good time. I didn’t really rate the Ice Bar in Amsterdam as much as London’s though. I found it to be quite small and had too many people crammed in.

As we were in Amsterdam we figured we should probably try out a space cake (nearly every person asked me if I was going to before I went so I figured we should give it a go). It was a very strange experience which resulted in me eating a load of chicken nuggets and snacking a hell of a lot. Me and Cam slept for about 10 hours when we got back to the hotel (I think this was a little bit due to how much walking we did too).

The next day we did a hell of a lot of walking again and sort of just wandered about. We did visit both the sex museum and erotic museum – this was a very interesting experience. It was super strange and kind of funny but some of the stuff was actually really interesting.

We did walk through the Red Light District as well, which gave me some very mixed feelings. I felt kind of guilty walking through and staring at the ladies in the window, I didn’t know where to look really. Everyone said it was something you had to see when you’re there so I am kind of glad that we checked it out but it was just very strange.

I feel like I have rambled on so much in this post. I hope I haven’t bored you too much. I feel like I could say so much more but I’ll restrain myself.

There is so much to do in Amsterdam and all I can say is that I will definitely be returning again at some point as it was brilliant.

Have you been to Amsterdam? Do you want to go? Would love to hear what you think.

I felt awkward when i walked through the red light district too.. like sure the girls are in the window to be looked at but it still feels wrong. Also be careful with the cakes because consuming can be way stronger than smoking and if you’re not used to it, it can make you very paranoid! If you’re gonna go again, you should definitely save it for the evening because the high can last for a long time so being able to go to sleep whenever is a plus. You got to experience a lot in such a short time though!

Also, mixing alcohol and space cakes is a bad idea haha, it can make you feel really sick.

Yeahh I felt like I was invading their privacy or something. Yeah the lady told us to be careful so we had half each, I was okay just mainly laughing. Yeah definitely would do that next time, we ended up going back to the hotel because felt too weird to be in public lol but yeah was so good at helping me sleep! Yes we tried to cram in as much as possible because there was so much to do x

That looks like quite the adventure – I have only been to Amsterdam once, and I posted about it as well – in terms of food the frites with mayonnaise were a highlight for me, and the red light district is indeed unique and strange – but I also found one of the last two windmills remaining in Amsterdam, so I balanced the seedy with the classic to a degree!

Here is my post if you are interested:

If you like cheese, you can do a cheese tasting workshop there – we really enjoyed that and I got some of the truffle cheese too!
