Movie Magic Monday: Girl Power

Hey, hope you’ve had a lovely weekend.

My Movie Magic post this week is a little different from the last couple of weeks, I’m going to focus on ‘girl power’ movies rather than a range of films. I’ve been feeling a little mopey this week so I’ve been thinking about movies with kick ass women that really give me a boost after watching them. Please don’t be put off by the title, I promise it’s not just a list of rom-coms.

Hidden Figures (2017)

I recommend this film to anyone, everyone. It’s based on a true story which only makes it even more mesmerising. I watched it twice in the cinema and both time my eyes were glued to the screen. The film was so uplifting and left me feeling so emotional (I did cry a couple of times but this may have just been me and my tendency to cry at everything). This film is truly outstanding. The female characters are so strong and likeable. I just cannot recommend this film enough.

The To Do List (2013)

Bit of a weird premise but basically it’s about a teenage girl taking control of her sexuality (I like how it’s a change of the typical male teenagers trying to get a glimpse at boobs for the first time). I really like that for once it’s not just about her trying to find the love of her life at 18 but rather her just having fun and exploring before she goes to college. “Amber, A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.” She knows fully well she doesn’t need a man to be happy, she’s just having fun and enjoying her youth (YES). Even though she’s a little old to be playing an 18 year old,  you can’t really tell (and I love Aubery Plaza). So give this film a watch, especially if you fancy a few laughs.

Wonder Woman (2017)

She’s strong, determined and super passionate. I know a lot of people were unsure abut this movie but I loved it (saw it twice in the cinema again). It was different from the usual superhero film and had such an interesting story. 100% recommend watching this film to anyone, ladies you’ll be feeling powerful and strong after watching, ready to take on anything. There’s a few laughs and a lot of kick ass action. Watch immediately.

Legally Blonde (2001)

I hope you’ve all seen this one. Absolute classic film and full of girl power. The girls aren’t getting catty over some guy, they’re not making fun of each others looks or personalities even though they’re very different, they actually build each other up (which is more of what we need in real life). Elle Woods proves everyone wrong and even though at the beginning she’s there for a man she completes Law school for herself and proves she’s a strong, determined woman.

Kill Bill (2001)

They ruin her wedding day, try to kill her and abuse her so she just turns around and goes after them all. Absolute bad ass of a woman who will stop at nothing for revenge. So different from the typical women in action films where they look perfect all the time and remain perfect hair/makeup/clothes even whilst fighting. They weren’t afraid to make the women look ugly or cover them in blood (oh yes). I only watched this film yesterday but I was totally feeling a girl power vibe.

Happy Monday everyone.

Hope you do go and watch some of these films as they’re all great in their own way.

I’d love to hear if you have seen any of these or if you’re thinking about watching them. Drop me a comment ✨✨✨

Have a lovely day my lovely followers 💜

Aww hahaa that’s so sweet, little girls should have strong female role models! I mean there’s so many male superheroes that are widely knownbut not that much in terms of female superheroes in mainstream media. Legally blonde just makes me so happy ah
