So I had wanted to try some Primark makeup for a while after reading some surprisingly good reviews about them online. After doing my wish makeup haul I was thinking about other more affordable makeup brands I could test out so I decided to go for Primark. I did have to stop myself going crazy when I was in Primark as they have quite a large makeup range now – I decided to go for just a few items to avoid too much wastage. Primark was also (obviously) so so so busy so I didn’t have a chance to look at their makeup range fully. I was surprised by how much choice they had though, their makeup selection is way bigger than I thought it would be. I was going to try out their foundation but I just couldn’t bare it when I was there – most of them seemed to be already open or somehow covered in foundation already, so for this look I have used my own foundation as a base.
I bought 7 products from their makeup range – an eyeliner, mascara, a highlighter palette, brow pomade, velvet matte crayon and 2 eye shadows. All together this cost me £13.80 which isn’t too bad for 7 makeup products (obviously depends how good they actually are but I’ll talk about that in a second).
PS Eye shadows – Royal Mint and Champagne Flute (90p each)
For 90p each I wasn’t really expecting much to be honest but they’re pretty good. They’re not super pigmented. When you apply the first layer or so they sort of just give a glittery/glowy look but you can add a few layers with these to make them look a bit thicker/more pigmented. Wasn’t massively blown away by these but at the end of the day they’re only 90p so I’m not too bothered.
PS Eyeconic Brow Pomade (£2)
Right I’m not sure if it was me being super daft but I couldn’t see any shade names/numbers on this product so I sort of just winged it and picked one at random. Even looking at the packaging now I can’t see anything that says a shade so I’m not too sure about that one. As you can see from the picture I think this shade is a little too dark for me, not sure if that was just me applying it too heavily or what but my eyebrows look crazy dark. I’ve never used brow pomade before so I was super excited testing this one out but it also meant that I wasn’t really sure on how to best apply it. Shade aside, this product was actually pretty good – I liked how creamy the formula was and how well the product glides onto the eyebrow. That being said, I’m not sure that it’s a product that I’d use again as I think it made my brows look way too out there. I will continue with testing out this product seeing if maybe I apply it differently I get a different result. I will keep this though as it could come in handy if I did want to do a bold brow look for some reason. If you’re into really defined brows then definitely give this product a go.
PS Liquid Liner – Ultra Black (£1)
For only a pound this eyeliner looked surprisingly good when I applied it. I was expecting it to be sort of see through/ have a grey-ish tinge like some cheap liquid eyeliners do but I found that it was super black and a really solid line. The applicator is easy enough to use, it’s the classic brush style of liquid eyeliner and whilst I prefer an eyeliner pen this one was surprisingly easy to use. When applied the liner can go a little dry on eye which is a bit annoying as it can feel a bit uncomfortable. After wearing it for a couple of hours I found that it went a little flaky too. I’m not complaining too much as it was only a pound but I can’t see me using this product again as liquid eyeliner is like my go to makeup product so I need something comfortable to wear that lasts a long time.
PS Aqua Lashes – Black (£2)
This mascara actually shook me, it’s so good!! It really did lengthen my lashes and make them look longer and more voluminous. To top it all off this bad boy is also waterproof. I love how great they look in the picture, you can really see the effect that it’s had on my lashes. For £2 I think this is so worth it. I have a little theory about mascara though and not sure if it’s just me that’s found this but a lot of the cheaper/more affordable mascaras that I’ve used have been better than some high end ones. There is exceptions of course but there’s been quite a few cheap mascaras that I’ve fallen in love with. Am I the only one who has found this?
PS Velvert Matte Lipstick Crayon – Dulce De Leche (£2.00)
Feels so smooth when applied to the lips, it’s a really creamy feeling lip crayon. I absolutely love the shade of this lipstick crayon, it’s sort of a reddy/nude. If I had just used this without knowing it was from Primark I’d had never guessed that it was £2.00. I was expecting this lipstick to be super drying which it surprisingly isn’t, it actually feels really velvety on the lips. Whilst I wouldn’t say that it’s matte (which I don’t mind) the finish is really nice and sort of more semi-matte but it does seem to last really well. I’ve used this quite a few times since purchasing it and I’m actually really liking it, definitely want to try a few of the other shades.
PS Gold Rush Highlighting Palette (£5.00)
I really should have looked at this palette more before buying it. Gold/bronze highlighters don’t suit my skin tone that well because I’m too pale. So silly me was trying to apply this lightly but it just ended up making my face look a bit dirty (I was having a right nightmare trying to put this on and blend it in but ah well). I did try the shades out as eye shadow and found that they looked much better like that. Feel like there’s not that much I can say about this palette because the colours really didn’t suit me at all.
I’m contemplating maybe turning this into sort of a series, trying out affordable makeup and seeing how it is. I find it super fun and interesting to do posts like this so I think a series based on this would be fun. Would this be something you’d be interested in reading?
Have you tried any Primark products? Would love to hear what you think about this post.
